| Breaking News |  | Monday, August 27th, 2012: Mitchell: Big Hit in the Eastern League! Brian Mitchell of the Varadero Voladoras was locked in all week as he bullied the Eastern League pitchers he faced. Mitchell put up some great numbers and hauled in the Eastern League Player of the Week trophy.
He hit .630 with no home runs and 3 RBIs. The 18-year-old first baseman also scored 3 runs and for the week went 17-27.
This year Mitchell is batting .462 with 36 hits and no home runs. He has scored 10 times and has batted in 7 runs. |  | Saturday, August 25th, 2012: Varadero Wins, Blanks Seawolves All went well for Hilama Peta of the Varadero Voladoras as he pitched his team to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Auckland Seawolves, limiting them to 3 hits while ringing up 10 strikeouts and surrendering no walks.
In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Peta.
His manager described him this way: "He's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy. He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
The Auckland skipper said, "He doesn't give you anything twice. It's a guessing game with him and today my club was always guessing wrong."
To date this season, Peta has a record of 2 wins and 2 losses and a 3.00 ERA.
