| Breaking News |  | Thursday, July 24th, 2014: Carlos Martínez Sidelined for Season Carlos Martínez will soon find out from his doctors if his season will continue. The first diagnosis was not too positive and stated the Citrus Heights starting pitcher could miss the remainder of the year. Martínez was injured while throwing a pitch in the Spartans-Iguanas clash at Citrus Heights Grounds recently. Doctors said he has a ruptured ulnar collateral ligament and would be out a minimum of 13 months.
In pitching stats this season Martínez has rung up 5 wins and 5 losses in 11 games. He has an ERA of 3.07 and has fanned 30 batters in 70.1 innings. |  | Wednesday, July 23rd, 2014: Season Over for Barrera in Citrus Heights Orlando Barrera of the Spartans just might have to call it quits for the season. The 17-year-old Citrus Heights right fielder received a possible season-ending injury against the Santiago Iguanas recently at Citrus Heights Grounds. Barrera suffered back spasms while making a defensive play. The Spartans medical staff said he could be out quite some time, as much as 7-8 months.
Thus far in 2014 Barrera is batting .080 with no home runs, 0 RBIs and 2 runs scored. |  | Monday, July 14th, 2014: Star of the Week Picked in EL It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Eastern League, but last week Bill Foley of the Citrus Heights Spartans reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week.
Foley rocked opposing pitching for a .520 average (13-25), 2 home runs and 7 RBIs to come away with the award.
