| Breaking News |  | Tuesday, July 29th, 2014: Super Swinger -- Suárez Slams 5 Hits 5 hits in 5 at-bats. It doesn't happen every day, and when it does, it's exciting. Today Júlio Suárez of the Merritt Centennials had a sensational 5-5 game against Hong Kong at Centennials Ballpark. He rifled base hits all over the ballpark in his team's 10-3 shellacking of the Phooies.
In the postgame press conference he joked, "Heck, that's a week's worth of hitting for me and I did it all in one day. I guess I can take the rest of the week off... Right, skipper?"
J. Suárez singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a three-run double in the 9th.
Suárez is hitting at a .259 mark this season. His stats show 1 home run, 22 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has played 50 games for the Centennials. |  | Friday, July 11th, 2014: Sánchez Sizzles, Hong Kong Fizzles António Sánchez of the Donner Lake Cannibals was quite impressive as he blanked the Hong Kong Phooies 4-0 at Ballpark of Donner Lake. He crafted a 6-hit shutout and chalked up 4 strikeouts with no walks in the contest.
So far this season Sánchez has a 5-1 record with a 2.81 ERA. |  | Monday, July 7th, 2014: Hong Kong Center Fielder Week's Best in EL 19-year-old Jorge Esquivel made a few Hong Kong headlines during this past week as the rookie center fielder proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Eastern League officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.
He cracked 12 hits in 20 at-bats to put up a .600 average. Esquivel collected no home runs, 5 RBIs and scored 5 runs.
