| Breaking News |  | Monday, July 14th, 2014: EL Names Piratas Shortstop Winner
So far in his young career, Nelson Peralta has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Eastern League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.
The 21-year-old Campeche Piratas shortstop hit at a torrid .462 clip as he collected 12 hits in 26 at-bats, no home runs, 6 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
In 2014 Peralta is batting .280 with 1 home run and 21 RBIs.

 | Friday, July 11th, 2014: Jennings Brilliant, Blanks Piratas
Steve Jennings was dynamite today and just blew Campeche away in the 2-0 victory. The Andean Fat Stealers starter had everything working as he hurled a 6-hit shutout over the Piratas, recording 8 strikeouts and 1 walk.
"He was pure nasty out there today. I don't think any team in the league would've had a chance against what he was bringing," said the Campeche skipper during his postgame press conference.
In 2014 Jennings has a 6-2 record with a 2.97 ERA.

 | Tuesday, July 1st, 2014: Piratas Ortíz Lost for Year
The news is bad in Campeche. The Piratas have lost the services of shortstop Jorge Ortíz for the rest of the season due to a ruptured tricep tendon. Ortíz was injured in a recent game with the Ponce Leones while throwing the ball and is expected to miss 8 months.
This year Ortíz is hitting at a .327 pace with 1 home run and 9 RBIs. He has played in 25 games and scored 6 times.
