| Breaking News | | Monday, July 22nd, 2013: Great Day for Cortéz! 5 Hits! After the Radom 16-3 victory over Robert Redford Presents and his 5-hit day left fielder Pablo Cortéz told SION beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game is very good...three or four hits even better...5 or more are out of sight...and if it is in pro ball...it is really something special. It will get you in the record books."
The 21-year-old player gained that distinction today at Pierogies Ballpark with a spectacular 5 for 5 game against the Robert Redford Presents The Sundance Kids.
The skipper of the Perogies spoke glowingly of Cortéz, telling SION writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Pablo did that to perfection today."
P. Cortéz hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, was hit by a pitch in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
Cortéz is currently batting .302 with 1 home run and 35 RBIs. | | Saturday, July 20th, 2013: Salinas Socks It to The Sundance Kids, Cracks 5 Hits It was a great day for him at Smokies Ballpark, but not a good day for his team. Vincente Salinas of the Smokies was unstoppable in today's 4-3 loss to the Robert Redford Presents The Sundance Kids.
"Boy, I was on the mark today," the Tennessee third baseman said after the game. "All I had to do was swing, and I connected. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-5 won't hurt your batting average like 0-5 will. Losing the game is disappointing, but my hits at least gave us a chance."
V. Salinas singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off G. Marleau in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th, hit a solo-shot off R. Ibarria in the 10th and walked in the 12th.
Salinas is hitting .433 this season with 3 home runs, 6 RBIs and 7 runs scored. He has 13 hits in 30 at-bats. | | Wednesday, July 17th, 2013: Miller 5-5 Against Robert Redford Presents If the Robert Redford Presents The Sundance Kids know how best to pitch the Seoul shortstop John Miller they didn't tip their hand today. Instead Miller showed he knew how best to hit them as he easily handled The Sundance Kids pitching, going 5 for 5 and helping the Thunderlizards to a 20-3 triumph at Thunderlizards Ballpark.
He told SION reporters in the postgame interview, "The way I was swinging today, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball."
The Robert Redford Presents skipper quipped, "Well, the next time we may just do that...blindfold him...and then pitch him differently, just to be sure."
J. Miller singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th, singled in the 6th and walked in the 8th.
This season Miller is batting .320 with 120 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 75 times and has 48 RBI. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 56-64, .467 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 14.0 GB | | Record at home | 28-32, .467 PCT | | Record on the road | 28-32, .467 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-3, .625 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 14-11, .560 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 11-14, .440 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 45-50, .474 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in May | 17-12, .586 PCT | | Record in June | 9-16, .360 PCT | | Record in July | 11-18, .379 PCT | | Record in August | 6-3, .667 PCT |
