Before the game Mink Sterrenburg liked his chances and his instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing the Mariners pitcher whitewashed the Leningrad Communists 5-0.
Sterrenburg said in the clubhouse afterward, "I just had a feeling it was going to be my day. My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."
The Lisbon starter held Leningrad scoreless, giving up 5 hits while registering 8 strikeouts and issuing 1 walk.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," the Communists manager said in his postgame interview.
"When that happens, you usually lose."
So far this season Sterrenburg has compiled a 5-4 record with a 4.48 ERA.

"That was one of my best outings," said Mink Sterrenburg. "I was worried a lot in the bullpen. My ball wasn't quite right. Luckily, it can be two different worlds -- the bullpen and the game. Once I stepped on the field, it all fell into place."
It was an impressive start for the Mariners hurler. He blanked the The Sundance Kids 3-0 on a strong 5-hitter while ringing up 5 strikeouts and doling out 2 walks.
This season Sterrenburg has compiled a 3-3 record with a 5.53 ERA.

 | Saturday, April 27th, 2013: Johns Hurls No-Hitter Against Criollos!
In a seldom seen sight, Kyle Johns threw a no-hitter as the Lisbon Mariners blanked the Belize Criollos 12-0. In a dominating performance at Mariners Ballpark he struck out 12 and walked 3 while facing only 31 batters.
"He had a great curveball out there," the Mariners manager told SION reporters. "Kyle was a real gamer, a real competitor. He didn't give in to anybody out there."
This season Johns has compiled a 2-0 record with a 2.04 ERA in 3 starts.
