| Breaking News | | Wednesday, July 30th, 2014: Combes Torches Raiders for 5 Hits "It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said Romain Combes after his 5-hit performance against the Raiders. "No offense meant to Shanghai, but it was like I was back in little league again. I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Ballpark of Easley."
The Easley catcher had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 6 at-bats and pacing his club to a 14-4 victory.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Romain worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Combes said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
R. Combes hit a three-run double in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off B. Wilson in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.
A look at his 2014 stats shows Combes with a .308 average, 7 home runs, 57 RBIs and 49 runs scored. He has played in 98 games. | | Friday, July 11th, 2014: Smith Sensational, 5-5 Jason Smith exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Ballpark of Easley. The Easley right fielder had a field day in the 7-6 triumph over the Cuba Bluesmen, finishing with a 5-5 day and a spot in the league record book.
"My hitting philosophy is pretty simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."
Well, Smith must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat.
J. Smith hit an RBI double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off M. Watnabe in the 9th.
Posting a .290 batting average to date, Smith has 3 home runs and 19 RBIs. | | Monday, June 30th, 2014: Hooper Sensational, 5-5 "Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," Arlington Heights's Tommy Hooper told reporters after the game. "That's all I did today. I made contact and it turned out well."
It definitely turn out well for Hooper today as he collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats against Easley. It turned out well for his team, too, as the Godzillas knocked off the Unrecognizable Blobs 14-1 at Ballpark of Arlington Heights.
T. Hooper singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off K. Marszolkiewicz in the 8th.
Hooper is batting .319 this season in 78 games with 3 home runs, 34 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has 90 hits in 282 at-bats. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 52-68, .433 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 18.0 GB | | Record at home | 26-34, .433 PCT | | Record on the road | 26-34, .433 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-4, .429 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 14-14, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 16-14, .533 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 36-54, .400 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-8, .200 PCT | | Record in April | 11-17, .393 PCT | | Record in May | 11-18, .379 PCT | | Record in June | 9-16, .360 PCT | | Record in July | 19-10, .655 PCT | | Record in August | 2-7, .222 PCT |
