| Breaking News | | Friday, August 8th, 2014: Sunfire Blanked by Jensen Niigata hurler Terry Jensen was at his best as he whitewashed the Death Valley Sunfire 9-0 today.
"He just kept the ball down, did a good job, made his pitches," said the Death Valley manager. "We didn't do a good job making adjustments, so we helped him out a little bit."
Jensen fired a 3-hitter and totaled 9 strikeouts and 2 walks in the shutout performance.
This year Jensen has registered 15 wins and 7 losses in 25 starts with a 2.51 ERA while registering 134 strikeouts and 35 walks in 193.1 innings. | | Tuesday, July 29th, 2014: Potros Pitching Ravaged by Sánchez What a day for Ramiro Sánchez of the Death Valley Sunfire! A 5-hit hitting spree! That doesn't happen every day! He ripped Tijuana pitching apart at Sunfire Ballpark and sparked the Sunfire to a 12-11 victory. He wrote his name in the record books, finishing his special day 5 for 5.
"I'm usually a first ball hitter," Sánchez told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid that."
R. Sánchez singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off H. Peng in the 6th, walked in the 7th, hit an RBI double in the 8th and hit a two-run double in the 9th.
This season in 104 games, Sánchez has hit at a .274 clip with 108 hits, 8 home runs, 64 RBIs and 48 runs scored. | | Monday, July 14th, 2014: Sunfire Chill Álvarez's Hot Streak Armando Álvarez, shortstop for the Seattle Storm, gave it a good try, but his day in history finally came to an end, when he went hitless in 5 tries against the Death Valley Sunfire. Not only had they stopped his 20-game hitting streak, they had beaten Seattle 5-4, too.
Speaking with the media after the game, Álvarez said, "Now that the streak has ended, I admit I will breathe a bit easier the next time I step up to bat. It was tough because I put a little pressure on myself. Now that it's over, I will definitely be a little bit looser at the plate."
In 87 games this season Álvarez has batted at a .271 pace with 102 hits and 3 home runs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 52-68, .433 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 18.0 GB | | Record at home | 29-31, .483 PCT | | Record on the road | 23-37, .383 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-3, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 19-21, .475 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 14-20, .412 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 38-48, .442 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 14-14, .500 PCT | | Record in May | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in June | 7-18, .280 PCT | | Record in July | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record in August | 4-5, .444 PCT |
