| Breaking News | | Tuesday, August 12th, 2014: Indianapolis's Barbosa Sidelined for Season Watching José Barbosa getting helped off the field today at Racers Ballpark, fans of the Indianapolis Racers feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the reliever will miss 13 months with back spasms. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Barbosa suffered the injury throwing a pitch in the game against the Sounds.
This year Barbosa is 0-and-3 with 15 saves and a 3.18 ERA. He has given up 25 hits in 28.1 innings with 24 strikeouts. | | Sunday, July 27th, 2014: McClure Bangs out 6 Base Hits It seemed that Calgary shortstop Dave McClure could do no wrong as the Marauders kayoed the Racers 8-3 today as he rapped out 6 hits in 6 at-bats. Indianapolis pitchers couldn't get him out as McClure seemed to know which pitches they were throwing.
"I think the Marauders were stealing signs," growled one unhappy Indianapolis fan.
"I just felt good today. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play," exclaimed the jubilant McClure in the postgame press interview.
D. McClure singled in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off C. Burns in the 9th.
This season McClure is batting .281 with 104 hits, 2 home runs, 42 RBIs, .333 OBP and has scored 45 runs. | | Wednesday, July 23rd, 2014: 5-5 Day for Hayashi If just anyone could go out and hit a baseball, big dollar contracts wouldn't exist. But they can't, so the good hitters get the big bucks. Kazuyoshi Hayashi showed how it's done as he went 5 for 5 against the Rome Gladiators and helped the Indianapolis Racers beat them 5-2.
The manager for the Gladiators told the BNN sportswriters, "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it. That's the game of baseball. Don't make mistakes and you win a lot more ballgames."
If Hayashi keeps hitting like this, he could be headed for a big pay raise.
K. Hayashi singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
Thus far this season in 70 games Hayashi is batting .309 with 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He has 46 hits in 149 at-bats. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P José Barbosa | back spasms | 11 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 72-58, .554 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 11.0 GB | | Record at home | 39-26, .600 PCT | | Record on the road | 33-32, .508 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 4-9, .308 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 25-15, .625 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 23-17, .575 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 49-41, .544 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in May | 17-12, .586 PCT | | Record in June | 11-15, .423 PCT | | Record in July | 19-9, .679 PCT | | Record in August | 12-7, .632 PCT |
