The Western League has named its Top Player of the Week. The honor went to Orlando Román, right fielder of the Hartford Whalers.
In an extraordinary hitting display, he belted out hits at a .433 pace to win the award. Román went 13-30 for the week, totaled 2 home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 9 times.
Román is presently hitting at a .294 pace with 11 home runs, 58 RBIs and has scored 76 times.

6 hits in a game doesn't happen every day. Hartford's Orlando Román had a very special day against the Rebels when everything came together for him and he did just that -- collected 6 hits in 6 at-bats -- and led the Hartford Whalers to a 18-3 win at Aristocrats Ballpark.
"I'm just out there to try and help the team win," Román said after the game, "I had some real good at-bats today. I made good, solid contact and luckily no one caught 'em."
O. Román singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off J. Costa in the 7th and hit a GRAND SLAM off E. Álvarez in the 8th.
So far in 2014 Román is hitting .291 with 11 home runs, 56 RBIs and 74 runs scored. He has 144 hits and played in 120 games.

 | Thursday, August 7th, 2014: Hits Galore: Grimard Drills 5 Hits
All game long San Diego's Ivan Grimard was rattling the walls at Anchormen Ballpark and banging out base hits against the Hartford Whalers. When the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a 5-hit day and the Anchormen had a 7-6 victory.
Speaking with reporters after his standout performance, the 22-year-old left fielder said, "Get 5 hits, win a ballgame, it's nice. I could get used to this."
I. Grimard tripled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 11th.
In 2014, Grimard is hitting .367 with 1 home run and 3 RBIs in 7 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .387 with 1 walk and 6 runs scored.
