Jack Fulton got another hit and ran his hitting streak to 30. He collected 2 hits in 5 at-bats, but that wasn't enough to win the game. His Quezon City Pearls were defeated 7-5 at Pearls Ballpark by the Port-au-Prince Liberators.
During the recent streak, the 22-year-old first baseman has remained quiet, sidestepping questions about it with ease. Whether for superstitious reasons or simply in an effort to avoid the spotlight, Fulton preferred to shower praise on his team. He told reporters in the clubhouse after the loss, "We have a better ballclub than we showed today."
"It's amazing to watch him hit right now, but I don't think anybody's really mentioning it," one of his teammates said. "So, we're trying to kind of keep that quiet... don't want to jinx him." J. Fulton singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, flied out in the 6th and flied out in the 9th.
This year Fulton has hit at a .368 clip with 176 hits, 5 home runs, 70 RBIs and 65 runs scored. | | Saturday, August 16th, 2014: Tagle Shines in Gem Vonne Tagle of the Port-au-Prince Liberators was on fire against Pacolet. He shut them down 10-0 on 5 hits and no runs with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks.
"The first two pitches I'm looking for an out, a ground ball or a fly ball," Tagle said. "I'm trying to get quick outs. I've never been a big believer in trying to strike a guy out from the very first pitch. It's too easy to end up behind in the count doing that."
This season to date Tagle has a record of 6 wins and 3 losses with a 3.01 ERA, has appeared in 19 games and struck out 65 in 92.2 innings. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | RF Jerry Owens | torn back muscle | one week | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 63-67, .485 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 11.0 GB | | Record at home | 31-34, .477 PCT | | Record on the road | 32-33, .492 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-7, .417 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 21-22, .488 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 24-25, .490 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 38-41, .481 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 11-17, .393 PCT | | Record in May | 16-13, .552 PCT | | Record in June | 14-12, .538 PCT | | Record in July | 12-16, .429 PCT | | Record in August | 10-9, .526 PCT |
