| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, August 6th, 2014: Ruíz Humbles Phoenix
Royal City starter Orlando Ruíz really did a number on the Talons today, shutting them out 5-0 on 2 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 1 walk and had 6 strikeouts.
In his postgame comments, the Phoenix manager said, "We didn't have good at-bats. I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting... seeing as our team has a bunch of pretty good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Orlando... he did an outstanding job today."
In pitching stats this season Ruíz has rung up 10 wins and 8 losses in 25 games. He has an ERA of 3.56 and has fanned 80 batters in 166.2 innings.

 | Tuesday, August 5th, 2014: Royal City's Fernández Shuts out Talons
On the hill Alfredo Fernández stood out and was the master of the moment as he blanked Phoenix 5-0.
At bat the Talons floundered, fizzled and failed to score.
"His fastball moves and he mixes in the slider," the Phoenix manager said. "He kept us off-balance."
The Royal City pitcher hurled a 2-hit shutout in an exceptional effort. He gave up no walks and had 5 strikeouts.
"I felt good," Fernández said. "That's probably the best fastball I've had all season. I was able to locate it pretty well. They were super-aggressive, which helped me."
Checking out his stats for the season, Fernández has registered 12 wins and 8 losses in 25 starts, 3.35 ERA and struck out 115 batters in 166.2 innings.

Gilberto Fernández has a lot going for him. The Phoenix right fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Eastern League has just picked him as its top hitter for June.
In 24 games last month, this outstanding rookie batted .351 with 5 home runs, 21 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
Currently Fernández is hitting .301 and has collected 7 home runs, 36 RBIs and scored 33 times, while playing in 76 games.
