Fans in Taipei ushered in Scott van Houwelingen today as their new right fielder. The 33-year-old came to terms with the Tigers and will be hauling in $16,340,000 a year over 4 years.
In 1078 games, van Houwelingen is a lifetime .289 hitter. He has knocked in 668 runs, scored 632 times, hit 143 home runs, walked 452 times and has an on-base percentage of .359. |
 | Sunday, December 15th, 2013: Coconuts-Tigers Trade: Mejía for Zhang
Done deal! The Pago Pago Coconuts have agreed to send 33-year old left fielder António Mejía to the Taipei Tigers for 20-year old minor league third baseman Yin-xiang Zhang and 21-year old minor league starting pitcher Garry Karakchiev. The trade, rumored for days, was completed in the wee hours this morning.
Mejía has hit for a .295 career average and totaled 1245 hits, 188 home runs and 706 RBIs.

The 2013 Federation of International Baseball batting champion is Henrique Bnard of the Taipei Tigers. He just closed out an impressive season with a .348 average. His consistency at the plate was a prime reason the 24-year-old catcher beat out the competition. A slump was a rare occurence for him.
Playing in 135 games, Bnard contributed 193 hits, 11 home runs and 64 RBIs to the Tigers attack.
