| Breaking News | | Saturday, August 10th, 2013: Sierra Batters Manila Big Time! "Believe it or not," said Pago Pago shortstop Marcos Sierra, "they threw me some good pitches today."
That would be hard to believe for anyone who saw him dispose of the Volcanoes with a great 5-hit performance.
"He made it look easy," said the Manila manager, who saw his team fall to the Pago Pago Coconuts, 9-2.
"Hats off to him!"
Currently Sierra is hitting .336 and has collected 10 home runs, 54 RBIs and scored 77 times, while playing in 110 games. | | Wednesday, July 31st, 2013: California-Manila Deal: Coleman for Reynoso The California Crusaders have parted ways with 24-year old minor league catcher Kenny Coleman, sending him to the Manila Volcanoes for 36-year old starting pitcher Francisco Reynoso. The Crusaders general manager confirmed the deal in an announcement this morning.
This season Reynoso has a 7-10 mark in 21 starts with a 3.33 ERA. He has given up 148 hits in 154 innings, struck out 85 and issued 43 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .256 batting average against him. | | Thursday, July 25th, 2013: Mejía 5-6 for Pago Pago It was a big day with the bat for António Mejía of the Pago Pago Coconuts at Pago Pago Grounds as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Manila 14-4.
To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today -- Bingo! -- 5 hits in 6 tries! But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."
At the end of the game Mejía had collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Coconuts had won.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
A. Mejía hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Z. Ngui in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
In 2013 Mejía has hit at a .285 clip with 111 hits, 19 home runs, 76 RBIs and has scored 60 times. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 52-65, .444 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 10.0 GB | | Record at home | 29-35, .453 PCT | | Record on the road | 23-30, .434 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 4-7, .364 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 12-24, .333 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 20-23, .465 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 32-42, .432 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 12-15, .444 PCT | | Record in May | 12-16, .429 PCT | | Record in June | 12-16, .429 PCT | | Record in July | 13-11, .542 PCT | | Record in August | 3-7, .300 PCT |
