| Breaking News |  | Friday, June 7th, 2013: Román Sparkles, Blanks London Ricardo Román of the Johannesburg Diamonds whitewashed the London Spitfires 9-0 in a complete game win, limiting them to 6 hits while chalking up 11 strikeouts and giving up no walks.
"Talking to SION writers after the game, his manager said, "He's got the makeup. He's not afraid to challenge guys. Ricardo is pretty poised out there. He knows how to pitch and how to use his stuff."
Román has started 13 times this year, pitched 95.2 innings, fanned 103 batters and walked 19. His current record is 8 wins and 5 losses with a 2.45 ERA. |  | Saturday, June 1st, 2013: Johannesburg's Starter Receives FIBB Pitching Award The #1 pitcher this past month in the Federation of International Baseball was Ricardo Román of the Johannesburg Diamonds. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing May with a superb 4-1 record and a 0.92 ERA.
The Diamonds star made 5 starts and surrendered 20 hits in 39.1 innings. He struck out 47 and walked 6.
In 2013 Román has fashioned a 7-4 mark, 2.57 ERA and pitched 80.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .184 against him and he has logged 86 strikeouts. |  | Saturday, May 18th, 2013: Diamonds Starting Pitcher Out Dealing with injuries is part of the game, and now Takanobu Hara of the Diamonds knows this firsthand. He was injured against the Warsaw Falcons while throwing a pitch. Diagnosed as a strained back muscle, the Johannesburg starting pitcher is expected to miss 1-2 weeks. Hara was a little upset, but understands it comes with the territory. "There is nothing I can do now. You try to be careful, but no matter how careful you are, injuries happen."
