Fans in Sao Paulo woke up this morning to learn that their team had traded nothing to the Santo Domingo Tortugas. In return, the Surf will receive 29-year old starting pitcher Jaime Botte.
Botte has rolled up a 59-51 career record and he boasts a lifetime ERA of 4.19.

 | Wednesday, April 25th, 2018: Year Over for Surf Merán
The doctors have spoken and Alfredo Merán of the Sao Paulo Surf didn't like what he heard. The 36-year-old shortstop is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Merán sustained his season-ending injury during the Havana Perfectos game yesterday at Surf Ballpark. He had to leave the game because he hurt himself while being hit by a pitch. Today the Sao Paulo medical staff reported Merán had a fractured skull and would be absent from the lineup for at least 12-13 months.
This year Merán is batting .177 with no home runs.

Ron Izza is respected by most Sao Paulo Surf fans for his no-frills style of play. The 24-year-old first baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the Federation of International Baseball Player of the Week honors.
He compiled a .500 average (10-20) with 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
So far this season Izza is hitting .400 with 3 home runs.
