| Breaking News |  | Friday, May 11th, 2018: Done Deal: Okada for Iida
The Santo Domingo Tortugas have parted ways with 25-year old second baseman Shoichi Okada in a trade with the Tokyo Ninjas for 20-year old minor league reliever Lancelot Maichel and 20-year old minor league shortstop Yoshifumi Iida. The Tortugas general manager confirmed the deal in an announcement this morning.
In his 270-game career Okada is hitting .251 with 177 hits, 14 home runs, 103 runs scored and 75 RBIs.

 | Sunday, May 6th, 2018: Santo Domingo's Utesov out 4 Weeks
Santo Domingo fans will be disappointed to learn that Panas Utesov developed a strained back muscle while throwing a pitch in today's game. After the doctor informed the Santo Domingo Tortugas manager that Utesov was expected to miss 4 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the starting pitcher could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.
His record this year is 1-2 in 6 starts and Utesov has a 2.75 ERA. |
 | Friday, May 4th, 2018: Tortugas Sabola Dominates Tiberones
Amente Sabola of the Santo Domingo Tortugas was really in the zone as he mowed down the San Juan hitters 4-0 in a sterling mound performance.
"I'm feeling good overall," he said.
"I'm executing my pitches, I'm able to hit my spots and I'm getting outs in key situations."
Sabola shut down the San Juan Tiberones, blanking them on 2 hits while registering 7 strikeouts and 2 walks.
On his 2018 stats sheet Sabola shows a 5-0 record, 6 starts, 47 innings, 32 strikeouts and a 1.91 ERA. |
