| Breaking News | | Wednesday, June 26th, 2013: MacCabe Tames Tiberones Havana starter Bastyão MacCabe really did a number on the Tiberones today, shutting them out 4-0 on 5 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 1 walk and had 6 strikeouts.
In his postgame comments, the San Juan manager said, "We didn't have good at-bats. I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting... seeing as our team has a bunch of pretty good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Bastyão... he did an outstanding job today."
This season MacCabe has 9 wins and 4 losses and a 2.33 ERA. | | Sunday, May 12th, 2013: SP de Roode Extends Stay with San Juan At a midafternoon press conference, San Juan Tiberones officials flanked Mart de Roode and announced they had reached an extension with the 27-year-old starting pitcher.
Terms include a $11,800,000 salary distributed over 4 years.
In the 2013 season de Roode has 4 wins and 2 losses and a 3.14 ERA. | | Friday, May 10th, 2013: Mejía 5-5 for Coconuts It was a good day for the San Juan Tiberones as they dumped the Pago Pago Coconuts 9-5 at Pago Pago Grounds. Despite the loss it was a remarkable day for Coconuts António Mejía, who went on quite a hitting spree with a 5 for 5 barrage.
The Pago Pago left fielder told reporters after his big 5-hit performance, "I have mixed emotions about this game. Getting 5 hits is really something special, but losing the ballgame spoils it to a certain extent. It's sort of like the feeling you get when your mother-in-law drive over a cliff in your new sports car."
For his outstanding performance Mejía will get his name in the record book.
Quizzed by the press corps about his personal hitting theories, he responded, "I don't have any buzz words. I'm 'not dialed in' or 'in a zone,' as they say. As far as the hitting goes, I try to keep it simple...try not to over-think it. I try not to look into it too much. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then in a split second decide to try to hit it. Today I picked up the spin very well."
A. Mejía hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season Mejía has 7 home runs and a .346 batting average. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 54-44, .551 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 4.0 GB | | Record at home | 35-16, .686 PCT | | Record on the road | 19-28, .404 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 8-5, .615 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 21-17, .553 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 18-18, .500 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 36-26, .581 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record in May | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in June | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in July | 9-6, .600 PCT |
