| Breaking News | | Monday, June 3rd, 2013: Rúbio Touches All Bases, Hit Cycle "How sweet it is, when the good part of the bat makes contact with the baseball." That's how Manny Rúbio, the Los Angeles catcher, described what happened in today's 6-5 victory over the Manhattan Myst -- hitting for the cycle.
In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that exact order is known as a "natural cycle", something that almost never occurs.
"I heard that sound every time I hit the ball -- it really was a special game for me."
It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Manhattan pitching for 4 hits in 6 at-bats and his name will now go into the record book. Rúbio also racked up 1 run batted in and 4 runs scored in the game.
M. Rúbio tripled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, doubled in the 8th, grounded out in the 10th and hit a solo-shot off J. Benbow in the 13th.
So far this year Rúbio has hit .234 with 10 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 30 runs. | | Saturday, June 1st, 2013: Sudani - MBBA's Best Starter In May Los Angeles starter Osano Sudani confused hitters all month long. Last month's Monty Brewster Baseball Association Pitcher of the Month took home the trophy as he collected a 6-0 record in 6 starts.
The 33-year-old Sudani added 43 strikeouts in 46.1 innings and 7 walks to his season record and compiled a 2.14 ERA. Other clubs hit .224 against him.
So far this season Sudani has a record of 11-0 with 69 strikeouts and 22 walks in 85 innings and a 2.22 ERA. | | Monday, May 27th, 2013: Vázquez on Fire, Named Player of the Week Los Angeles fans have something to crow about today as Los Angeles right fielder Félix Vázquez nabbed the Monty Brewster Baseball Association Player of the Week Award for his performance over the last seven days.
"I know there are times when it's hard to lay off pitches. Everyone goes through stretches when he's too eager to put the ball in play. You know, though, I feel like this past week I was able to get in the right frame of mind and just let things come naturally," said Vázquez.
He posted a .519 average (14-27) this past week with 1 home run, 6 RBIs, and 7 runs scored.
In 48 games this season Vázquez has batted at a .333 pace with 65 hits and 6 home runs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 49-16, .754 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 27-7, .794 PCT | | Record on the road | 22-9, .710 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-4, .429 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 16-4, .800 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 13-3, .813 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 36-13, .735 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 9-1, .900 PCT | | Record in April | 18-9, .667 PCT | | Record in May | 22-6, .786 PCT | | Record in June | 9-1, .900 PCT |
