The Valencia Stars struggled at the plate today against Gators hurler Alfredo López, who shackled them on 5 hits while hurling a complete game 1-0 shutout.
"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said the Stars skipper in his postgame comments.
"Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."
López finished the game with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in an excellent mound performance.
"He pitched real well," his manager said. "Alfredo made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."

Francisco López will soon find out from his doctors if his season will continue. The first diagnosis was not too positive and stated the Jackson starting pitcher could miss the remainder of the year. López was injured while throwing a pitch in the Gators-Mounties clash at Ballpark of Jackson recently. Doctors said he has a herniated disc and would be out a minimum of 7-8 months.

Fans in Jackson ushered in Carlos Mendoza today as their new first baseman. The 37-year-old came to terms with the Gators and will be hauling in $4,000,000 a year over 1 year.
In his 1753-game career Mendoza is hitting .277 with 1911 hits, 390 doubles, 43 triples and 300 home runs. He has scored 935 runs and driven in 1006.
