"It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said Jose Villamarin after his 5-hit performance against the Basilicos. "No offense meant to Mantaza, but I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Saints Ballpark!"
The Cork first baseman had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 5 at-bats and pacing his club to a 9-7 victory.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Jose worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Villamarin said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
J. Villamarin singled in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 5th and singled in the 7th.
This year Villamarin is batting .261 with 1 home run. He has scored 10 runs and driven in 7. |
 | Friday, July 19th, 2013: Centennials Vigil Silences Miami
Today at Centennials Ballpark José Vigil baffled Miami batters on 3 hits en route to a 3-0 shutout.
"He was able to keep hitters off balance and got the ball down," said the Centennials skipper about his starter's performance.
Vigil had 2 strikeouts and 1 walk in the game.
In 2013 Vigil has compiled a 4-0 record with a 2.15 ERA. |
 | Thursday, July 18th, 2013: Pae Cracks 5 Hits
There are moments in a player's career that are etched into their memories forever. Dong-woo Pae of the Oxnard Beet Farmers had one of those moments when he went 5 for 6 at the plate today in the 13-2 win over the Yellowknife Knights at Beet Farmers Ballpark.
The 20-year-old first baseman told reporters in the postgame interview, "This is a day I won't forget soon, but I'll settle to just get a hit or two every day...enough hits to hang around the league a little bit longer... like 10... 15 more years maybe."
D. Pae singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, struck out in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off V. Arispe in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season Pae is hitting .370 with 3 home runs. |
