 | Thursday, June 12th, 2014: Chikafuji Batters Long Island for 5 Hits It was a sensational day at the plate for Yoshino Chikafuji as he led the charge to a 14-7 win over the Black Riders. The Ponce first baseman was pure misery for the Long Island pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 5 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting. The manager for the Black Riders told BNN reporters after the game, "Chikafuji put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball." Y. Chikafuji singled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off J. Trujillo in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off C. Butler in the 8th. Chikafuji is hitting .318 in 2014 with 10 home runs, 53 RBIs and 42 runs scored. He has 78 hits in 245 at-bats and played in 63 games. |
