Saturday, May 31st, 2014: Great Stroke: Downing Gets 5 Hits
"It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said Dan Downing after his 5-hit performance against the Sled Dogs. "No offense meant to Alaska, but it was like I was back in little league again. I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Ballpark of Ponce."

The Ponce catcher had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 6 at-bats and pacing his club to a 23-0 victory.

His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Dan worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."

"That's what I'm trying to do," Downing said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."

D. Downing singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run double in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off A. Maddox in the 8th.

Downing is hitting .336 so far this season with 21 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He has 48 hits including 2 home runs, 10 walks and .386 OBP.
