GUBA Single A News Article | | | Sunday, June 9th, 2013: Gothland On Fire! 5-6 for Santa Monica! 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory...your 5 minutes of fame...you get your name in the record book.
In the Superstars 23-2 win over Sendai, Brian Gothland was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Superstars Ballpark.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime chance for the record book. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Gothland delivered 5 hits in 6 at-bats, a day he will not soon forget.
B. Gothland grounded out in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, walked in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off J. Unknown in the 9th.
So far in 2013, Gothland is batting .352 with 4 home runs and 31 RBIs. | |
