 | Monday, July 14th, 2014: Vélez Goes 5-5 It was a hits blitz for Gabriel Vélez at Patagonia Grounds. The Patagonia Giant Sloths center fielder tore into Niigata for 5 hits in 5 at-bats to pace the Giant Sloths to a 12-5 victory and wrote his name into the baseball record book. The manager for the Ninjas bemoaned his pitching, saying, "We fell behind and weren't locating well. Once you get behind in the count, you have to make real good pitches, rather than good pitches, and we weren't able to do that today." He added, "Not to take anything away from Vélez, but bad location was the story of the ballgame. That's why we lost the game." G. Vélez singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off J. Medina in the 8th. So far this season Vélez is hitting .244 with 16 home runs. |
