GUBA Double A News Article | | | Thursday, May 29th, 2014: Oliver 5-6 for Atlantic City 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory... your 5 minutes of fame... you get your name in the record book.
In the Gamblers 14-1 win over Tennessee, Michael Oliver was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Field of the Gamblers.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime chance for the record book. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Oliver delivered 5 hits in 6 at-bats, a day he will not soon forget.
M. Oliver flied out in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off K. Yoshida in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off T. Shao in the 9th.
Currently Oliver is batting .406 with 13 hits and 2 home runs. He has knocked in 9 runs and scored 5 times. | |
