GUBA Double A News Article | | | Sunday, May 4th, 2014: León 5-5 for Mariners 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory... your 5 minutes of fame... you get your name in the record book.
In the Mariners 12-2 win over Tennessee, Ricardo León was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Mariners Ballpark.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime chance for the record book. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day León delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats, a day he will not soon forget.
R. León hit an RBI double in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off A. Kea in the 8th.
This year León has hit 3 home runs and posted a .379 batting average. | |
