 | Sunday, June 22nd, 2014: Hernández Fires Shutout in Monks Win "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Monks manager told reporters after today's game. The Leprechauns ran into a buzzsaw as Pedro Hernández cut them down to size 5-0 with a 6-hit shutout. His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one." In the complete game whitewash the Zhengzhou hurler doled out 1 walk and registered 5 strikeouts. In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Pedro goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be." Hernández also got some praise from the Limerick manager. "He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings." In 2014 Hernández has fashioned a 2-2 mark, 2.23 ERA and pitched 36.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .248 against him and he has logged 29 strikeouts. |
